  • Fit and Well
     

    Teaching objectives:

    1.The students will be able to understand the reading materials.

    2.The students will be able to find out the correct titles for the passages.

    3.The students will be able to use the main sentences to share ideas.

    4.The students will be able to talk about how to keep fit.

    5.The students will know the importance of being fit and well.

    Teaching procedures:

    1.Before reading

    a.Free talk according pictures shown on the screen.

    ( By talking to the students, get the topic of this lesson and have the kids understand what we are going to focus on during this lesson.)

    b.Brainstorming

    (Thinking about the topic, have the students think about how to keep fit in our everyday life. --- show the three titles to the students after sharing ideas.)

    c.Reading tasks

    (Make sure the students know what and how to do.)

    2.While-reading

    a.Read and match

    (The students will work together in a group of four students. Quickly read these passages and match the correct titles. )

    b.Reading for information

    (Have the students read all these three passages individually and find out the key information and mark the answers down. Teacher will give support if the students need help. Then, they will share their answers in the study group.)

    c.Reading for sharing

    (Have the students choose one of their favorite part/title and then read for the whole class. The other students will listen carefully and give comments later. They will also be encouraged to mark some reading mistakes and help the reader. )

    d.True or false activity

    (The teacher will give some of the FALSE facts, and have the students listen and think, then they will help to correct the sentences.)

    3.After reading

    a.Facts recall

    (According to the board design, help the students describe what the reading materials have taught us. They will be asked to use the main sentence structures to talk.)

    b.“Examine ourselves”

    (The students work in their group and discuss if they are having a healthy life style. If they are eating right/ doing enough exercises/ have enough rest.)

    c.“To be healthy suggestions”

    (They can choose to speak or write some of the suggestions in order to keep fit. They will be encouraged to think deeper and more. Besides eating, exercising, resting. What else do we need or what else should we care if we want to be healthy and well. )

    d.Eng the class. (Summary and assignments.)

    Note: This lesson is chosen from the extension part of Kid’s Box. There might be new vocabularies and practical sentence structures in this lesson. The topic is about keeping fit and well, it should not be new or hard for the 6th graders. We try our best to help the students with different English levels to love English and use English as much as they can and learn to live healthily. According to the students’ needs, all the teaching activities and procedures might be changed in the classroom teaching.
